Formerly known as Sources
The Harver platform previously included a feature called Sources, designed with very specific functionality:
- Harver-first vacancy links could include an internal Source ID (e.g., LinkedIn, Indeed). When candidates registered using such a link, the Source ID was attached to their application.
- Recruiter users could be assigned to one or more Sources, similar to how they can be assigned to locations. Recruiters were only able to see candidates whose applications contained the Source IDs assigned to them.
This setup was originally intended as an additional security and data-segmentation measure, but in practice it often caused operational issues:
- Customers wanted to track Sources without restricting recruiter visibility.
- They frequently did not want to manage Source assignments for every recruiter.
- Candidates who applied without a Source ID became invisible to all recruiters, since no recruiter was associated with “no source.”
Over time, this led to confusion, unnecessary complexity in managing candidate visibility, and misaligned expectations about the feature’s purpose.rces to recruiters. When a candidate applied without a source it got lost because none of the recruiters could see those candidates.
The legacy Sources functionality has been partially decommissioned, and the parts still in use have now been repurposed as Tags to provide a simpler and more flexible way to categorize applications.
Use cases for Tags
Tags can be used in two ways:
- Organizing and searching candidates
As the name suggests, Tags can be added to candidates to help organize them and improve search capabilities. For example, recruiters can tag candidates with the name of a Hiring Manager or with roles they believe the candidate may be a good fit for. - Controlling candidate visibility (advanced use)
Tags can also be used to show or hide candidates from specific recruiter users on the Candidate Management overview. With this method, only recruiters who have been assigned a corresponding Tag can see candidates labeled for those roles.
If you would like to use Tags in this way, please contact our Support team.
How to Create Tags
Tags can be created in Account Settings under the Sources section.
For backwards-compatibility reasons, the menu is still labeled Sources, even though the functionality has been repurposed as Tags.
To add a new Tag, click Add source:
Once added, Tags are listed here and can be renamed or deleted.
How to use Tags
When candidates have Tags assigned, the Candidate Management filters will display a Tags section, allowing you to filter candidates by any tag currently in use based on your selected filter settings.
You can also add Tags as a selectable column in the Customize columns menu, allowing you to display candidate tags directly in the Candidate Management table:
Tags are visible on each Cadnidate Details Page in a dedicated widget:
How to Assign Tags to Users
If you wish to use Tags to show or hide candidates from specific recruiters, you can assign them as Sources to recruiters in User Management. Multiple Sources can be selected and assigned to each recruiter as needed.
